The Johnsons are back! Yay! (Dancing Azonto with one leg!) If you don’t know, The Johnsons is a sitcom on Africa Magic starring Chinedu Ikedieze (one of the notorious Aki & Pawpaw duo!) and I get to play his America-returnee Auntie Rose! When I first appeared in Season 2 last year I was intimidated by the stars on set, the cameras and lights etc. The fact that I was a virgin (TV-wise o!) didn’t help. Then add the fact that I had to speak with an American accent didn’t help the situation! But alas, most people thought I pulled it off! Everyone who knows me knows I’m not one to fake anything least of all an accent. I speak very clear and good British English (none of that American crap, thank you very much!) and I love my distinct naija accent. Proud of it actually. So, speaking with an accent is unnatural and uncomfortable! After all, I’ve never been to America (and don’t be fooled, most of the people you see on TV and hear on radio haven’t been either; it’s all thanks to cable TV!)
